Ireland: Changes to Employment and Data Protection Laws
Updates to employment and data protection laws in Ireland include the following:
- The Parental Leave (Amendment) Bill 2017 has changed leave entitlements from18 weeks to 26 weeks, and the Shared Maternity Leave and Benefit Bill 2018 allows parents to share maternity leave benefits.
- The enforcement of the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA), which in Ireland supplements the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation. The Act came into effect May 25, 2018 and outlines specific rules that Irish HR specialists must be consider.
- The EU Law Enforcement Directive became Irish law and specifies the Data Protection Commission as the national supervisory authority for data protection.
